Hi Devin! He will do it! In his time. The army crawling is working for him still, but I can promise you that he will knee crawl soon. Just keep trusting him and giving him plenty of opportunities to move freely and practice like he’s doing. I would love to hear back from you in the coming weeks, if you remember 🙂

My son is 11months old. He is army crawling very effectively. He gets himself into a sitting position easily (he was army crawling first, now sitting up). He has always gotten on hands and knees and rocked easily, but when he pushes off into a crawl he uses both legs at once and flops to his belly. Then does his low belly crawl … recently he has tried to use his knees and will take a few small knee crawls (they are slow and more shifting his hips, than pushing off with the knees) and then gets impatient and goes back to the army to get where he wants to go.

There is so much research about the benefits of knee crawling versus army crawl, for motor and cognitive development…. How do you approach encouraging the development of cross body / knee crawling or do you not encourage it at all and just let him find his way, even if that means he will likely skip the hands and knees crawling.

I should also mention that he pulls up on everything and is working on his balance. I do not pull him up or walk him.

I am a first time mum with not many babies or children around me. My boy is 10 months old and has just cautiously started crawling (from a seated position that I place him in) I’m unsure of where to go from here as because as he is getting quite mobile I get hit with a LOT of resistance popping him in a lying position in his play area. I give in quite easily. Is it too late, or do I persevere?

She has been rolling and commando crawling for well over a month, fast too! She also lays on her side and almost side planks a lot but seems so far off sitting up. I feel under pressure to start sorting her up cause it just doesn’t seem to be happening

Thank you, Chris. What is your baby currently doing motor-skill-wise?
