You wrote that anything that has conflict to teach moral lessons is best to be avoided (until the kid can distinguishe clearly between reality and fantasy) so that aplies to books as well? Violent books(that shows conflits at some point) can make a kid more prone to show agression? There are any studies exploring the effects of messages in books?

I love these guidelines. I haven’t read much Gerber, but I’m familiar with Montessori and screen-time.

My mom also got him in the habit of giving him my phone while I dress him after his bath or changing a dirty diaper because he was so squirmy and would cry so now we are in this habit of letting him watch a video on our phone while we are doing this, and I always feel mom guilt when I do this, and your research obviously proves why I feel this way. He does get a lot of time outside and most of the day we just have music on and we play with his toys, but when I need to do something I find myself using tv as a clutch. Even in the restaurants, the only way we can make it through dinner is if we let him watch a video on our iphone (I know what you’re thinking or else he cries and wants me to hold him. Have I created a monster? Is it too late to turn back? What do you suggest I do? Slowly wean or just take it away altogether? Thank you!! I’m so worried I’m rotting his little brain…

Thank you so much, Taylor. I’m thrilled you find my podcasts helpful! Have you explored general resources for blind parents? That’s where I would begin. Then I would be happy to help you with any specific concerns you have regarding Magda Gerber’s approach. I also do telephone consultations if you are ever interested in that. The information is here at this link: https://www.janetlansbury.com/call-me/

They are very informative and helpful. Although I do not have kids of my own yet, I do plan on having kids in the future. Hopefully. I am a totally blind person, and I’m looking for advice on how to deal with kids as a totally blind person do you have any advice on that?
